Now it’s nearly time for the Ultimate Fighting Championship to head to the Abu Dhabi desert and ‘Fight Island.’

White has been determined to put on shows at a purpose-built and isolated location on an island since lockdown began.

That dream will come true soon as the UFC put on four shows on Yas Island.

Gilbert Burns had to pull out of the main event at UFC 251 but Jorge Masvidal has stepped in for a title shot against Kamaru Usman.

UFC 251: Date and start time
The event is set to take place on July 12 and will be held behind closed doors.

The main event is slated to get underway at around 5am.

It will be the first event to take place on what has become known as ‘Fight Island’, which has been revealed to be located in Abu Dhabi.

Yas Island has held three previous UFC events including UFC 112 and UFC 242.

UFC 251: TV and live stream
BT Sport 1 will broadcast the event with their coverage of the prelims starting at 1am. Their main show starts at 3am ahead of Usman vs Masvidal.

On ‘Fight Island’, Dana White said: “We came up with the idea of having fights on ‘Fight Island’ because we needed a destination to hold international events during the global pandemic.

“Abu Dhabi has been an amazing location to hold fights over the past 10 years and it is the perfect place for these events.

“The infrastructure we are building will be such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the fighters that’s never been done before – from the arena, the private training facility, and the Octagon on the island – it’s going to be an experience that none of us will ever forget.

“I can’t wait to deliver amazing fights from Yas island.”
